human resources today: resources without the human

with human resources departments of some major corporations and non-profits, they seem to have lost their way.  they have become resources without the human.  they are merely a department that supplies retirement funds and benefits.  once the economy tightened, the human resources department became one of the most impersonal departments.

eknme understands the philosophy behind telephone screening, but it can be done better.  eknme thinks skype may be the better telephonic option — or maybe through webcams. the interview process is much better done in person where the interviewees meet the people and gain an impression of the company.  eknme thinks the interview would be better served with actual employees of the company present rather than simply human resources personnel throughout the interview process.  some of the human resources personnel have become so affixed with their jobs, their job titles or the rules and regulations of the company, they have lost touch of the human element of their position.  they have become robots.

perhaps in those human resource departments, it’s time for a change, change in philosophy, change in regulations and change in personnel.  again, sometimes those companies are so infatuated with themselves and the rules and regulations, adorned in “culture.”

we can do better.

we deserve better.
