there have been many rallies across the United States since the inauguration of Donald Trump, America’s 45th President. whether you disagree with Trump’s politics, media-wrangling or for that matter, agree with his platform, there have been a division among the rallies, whether for or against. In Philadelphia, there have been rallies against Donald Trump’s repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Trump’s stance against immigration and immigrants and now there are rallies against Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his ties to the Russian government. with the extreme left not working with each other, and the extreme right not doing the same, right now, politics is grassroots but a grassroots mess as well. those who stand independently are not appealed by either side and simply shrugged.
these grassroots leftist protests against Donald Trump have been getting most of the media’s attention so far. however, a few days ago, watching someone reading out of a little book to give out protest chants was a little disconcerting. It reminded EKnME of Mao Tse-Tung in China or Joseph Stalin of the former Soviet Union, each accompanied by their little books. not a welcoming sight to see at all in America and in fact, disturbing in the democratic republic of the United States.
politics aside, there is no cohesion in these protests across the United States. a few political groups are remedying this by infusing philosophy into it — like Philadelphia’s Stoa group. but this is not resolving the issue of the separate political groups against Donald Trump. EKnME thinks this may exacerbate the issue and divide the left even further since now philosophy will divide the political group along philosophical lines now. with the accessibility of social media, it begs to wonder how these political groups aren’t using it to its fullest. it also begs the question if the Baby Boomers, the old guard, are still using it — with their archaic notions of pushing their own agenda and their own politics instead of unifying the group altogether.
as for the extreme right, actually standing by and watching this has to be their benefit. they have not paraded around (at least to the extent of the left) and instead used social media to their advantage from the sidelines. standing while the left gives themselves enough rope to choke themselves is much more efficient and much more newsworthy.
EKnME doesn’t usually take sides on politics, but the fall of American politics has been a sight to watch.
what do you think?
