in this unstable global economy, some scammers (even legitimate businesses) are deploying an old tactic. instead of using snake oil, which you as a business owner won’t buy anyway, they are posing or pretending to be a company that you’re used to — PECO or Microsoft. Unlike the olden days, they want to give you the impression that they are the reputable company from the outset — and don’t disclose who the company is until the very end of the telephone conversation. in fact, these companies won’t even disclose who they are in the beginning of the telephone conversation. an old trick, same game.
a great countermeasure is by googling their telephone number online which should be visible on the business line. another countermeasure is to use scamadviser to check out the website of said company. both will tell suspect things about their company.
be careful out there in this economy, and check back often with eknme for more scam alerts!
