geek and wish mobile apps: chinese goods overflowing

after groupon mobile application made its debut, with its mix of chinese and american goods, two mobile applications, geek and wish, have taken over the chinese market.  if you thought some portions of ebay wasn’t bad enough, here comes two mobile applications.  geek mobile application mostly supplies chinese technological goods such as headsets and mp3 players; on the other, wish mostly supplies chinese clothing and footwear, but it supplies technological goods too.

on the bright side, it’s most definitely cheap and most are knock-offs of things that you have seen either online or in the store.  that’s where the bright side ends.  for the clothing and shoes, the sizes are asian sized so it’s hard to gauge how it would fit sight unseen. the manufacturing process could have cancer-causing chemicals. for the electronics, such as the wires, for example, it’s hard to gauge whether they are certified for u.s. voltage or u.s. equipment.  it could fry the equipment out or worse, start a fire from electrical overload.

given this applications their due, it’s not say american clothing companies aren’t importing chinese goods too.  a substantial portion of our brand name shoes and other articles of clothing and accessories are made in china.  if they’re not made in china, they are made in vietnam or thailand.

with both the u.s. and chinese economies in a tepid state, these applications give china a decided advantage where quantity of goods exceed the quality of goods sold.

eknme is all for capitalism. but this is the flood of chinese goods again perhaps in worse state than when president george w. bush left it some years ago.  with the u.s. financial markets attempting to rebound, these applications may hinder its financial recovery.

have you used one or both of these applications? do you like them?  do you agree or disagree?
